The commanding officer, Captain Folger, came ashore and was greeted by mutineer John Adams, now leader of a small community consisting of the remaining Tahitians and their children. The mutiny on the Royal Navy vessel HMS Bounty occurred in the South Pacific Ocean on 28 April 1789.
